The Truth About Accent Walls
There are many preconceived notions and traditional definitions of what an “accent wall” is/ought to be. Today, we would like to discuss our perception of the different ways to approach an accent wall (spoiler alert: there are more than you may think). In doing so, we hope to inspire you to think outside of the box when it comes to incorporating an accent wall into your space.
Solid Color Accent
The simplest way to incorporate a “pop” of style into your room is to choose one wall and give it a fresh coat of paint in a complementing or contrasting color. If your room is long and narrow, you may consider painting the two shorter walls in a deeper hue to make the room feel more intimate and cozy.
Trim Designs
Adding some wainscoting, a chair rail, or stips of trim in a horizontal or vertical pattern can give dimension to a space. We love painting the wall and details in the same color to break up a plain wall without adding too much business.
Wallpaper
Who says wallpaper is out of style? With plenty of textures and patterns to choose from, your options are limitless. Gone are the days of messy paste; now, peel and stick wallpapers are available for you to experiment with and enjoy without the commitment. Try it in a dining room or powder room for an unexpected burst of style.
Think outside the box
Adding a rich color or trim detail to the ceiling gives visual interest and draws the eye upward. We love this in a smaller space, such as an office or formal dining room.
So whether you plan to implement any or all of the methodologies above, just choose a focal point, and go for it! Accent walls are a great way to make your home stand out from others in a creative, yet understated way.
